Install the app

Put HeartScript on your Home Screen: it opens full screen like any other app, works offline, and the browser keeps your passages on the device.

In Chrome or Edge, click the install icon at the right end of the address bar, or open the browser menu and choose Install HeartScript. In Safari on a Mac, choose File, then Add to Dock. On your phone, open heartscriptapp.com and come back to this page.

Practice

Reps per chunk

How many times you say each chunk aloud before saying it from memory.

10

Hints

Every rep shows the chunk in cipher. Tap a word to see it, or Show text to see the whole chunk. Peek shows the cipher while you recall.

Extra reps after a miss

When you grade a recall Missed, you say it this many more times with hints.

5

After each chunk, recite everything you've learned so far before starting the next one.

While recalling

What you see before you tap Reveal.

During practice: Space counts a rep, R reveals, P peeks, F shows the full text, and 1, 2 or 3 grades. Turn this off if single keys get in the way, for example with speech input.

Daily goal (minutes)

Minutes of practice a day for Today’s bread on the home screen. Reviews that are due are part of the goal too.

New passages

Chunk size

Used when you add a passage. Saved passages keep their chunks; you can re-chunk one from its own page.

Display

Text size

The size of Scripture while you read and practice.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. (BSB)

Keeping your passages safe

Your passages are kept in this browser on this device, and saved to your account whenever you're online.

  • Install the app (above) so the browser keeps your data.
  • Open the app online now and then, so changes made offline reach your account.
  • You can also export a backup (below) to keep a copy of your own.

Backup

Export

Saves a file with your passage references, chunk boundaries, progress, review dates and goals. It doesn't include the Bible text, which is looked up again in each passage's translation when you import.

Import

Restores passages and goals from a backup file. You need to be online.

Import?

Each passage's text is looked up again in its translation. Passages already on this device take their chunks and progress from the backup.
